Private Equity (PE)

Also known as: PE

Definition
Private equity is investment in private (non-listed) companies, typically via buyout funds (mature companies) or growth-equity funds (expansion-stage companies). Typical fund-life 10 years; commitment-based capital calls; J-curve returns profile.

Singapore-based PE managers operate under CMSL / FMC licence. UHNW clients access PE either via direct GP-led funds (with US$5M+ commitments per fund) or via fund-of-funds and secondaries platforms at lower minimums. JP Morgan PB, Citi PB, Goldman PWM, and the global MFOs (Stonehage Fleming, Iconiq) all run institutional-quality PE platforms for clients with US$25M+ AUM. Singapore family-office structures often allocate 10–25% to PE across primary, secondaries, and direct co-investments.
