External Asset Manager

Also known as: EAM

Definition
An External Asset Manager (EAM) is a MAS-licensed independent investment manager that advises on and manages client assets held at one or more private-bank custodians.

The EAM model separates custody (held at a private bank such as Bank of Singapore, UBS, Pictet, EFG) from investment advice and execution (provided by the EAM). EAMs typically hold a Capital Markets Services Licence as a Fund Management Company and serve HNW clients who want institutional-quality advice without dependency on a single private-bank product platform. Singapore has 50+ active EAMs.
